Tour Description
On a bike tour in Nature Park Amager and Ørestad, you'll experience the unique contrast between metropolis and wild nature park.
We begin at the Amager Forest Helpers, where bicycles and helmets are distributed to participants. From here, we introduce the many activities of the Nature Center, the Outdoor House, the Amager Forest Helpers, and the numerous other nature actors in the area.
The tour then takes us to Himmelhøj, where a large stranded ship created by landscape artist Alfio Bonnano lies. We then head towards the modern Ørestad, which in the southern part boasts cutting-edge recycled architecture and circular construction principles with buildings such as UN17 Village, Ressourcerækkerne, Upcycle Studios and 8tallet.
From the city, we venture out into Ørestad's residents' 'savannah,' which is the park's nickname among residents. The savannah-like landscape unfolds beautifully from the park's newly constructed observation tower at the end of Asger Jorn's alley.
From here, we bike to Storehøj, where cannons were fired in the 1950s when the military still had its time in the nature park. From the park's newest bird observation tower, we hold our breath and gaze out over the bird-rich area at ground level.
The tour now takes us through Denmark's largest birch forest, where we take a break at one of the many shelters. Then we bike in the footsteps of the military. What do Alfa, Nike, and Granatvej actually have to do with Nature Park Amager?
Søndre Pumpe is a highlight of the tour. It is a hidden gem in the nature park, which offers genuine craftsmanship traditions in the masonry while also ensuring that Nature Park Amager does not flood. The pumping station is also a destination for the park's many wandering Armarmino guests. Look forward to going inside!
We continue the bike tour up to Kalveboddiget, where Hestefælleden lies as a beach meadow towards Køge Bay filled with fish and birds. On the way back, we visit the bird tower on the embankment, which impresses with views over the bird sanctuary on one side and Køge Bay on the other.
